Workshop Aims

  • Introduce participants to the foundations of traditional tango as danced in Buenos Aires.

  • Integrate mindfulness practices with tango, emphasizing how breath, posture, and intuitive connection enhance harmony between body, mind, and rhythm.

  • Cultivate body awareness and a deeper connection with both the music and the dance partner through guided mindfulness and movement exercises.

  • Explore the art of stillness and the significance of pauses, enriching participants' ability to communicate through subtle movements and achieve a flowing, expressive dance experience.

Tango Zen is a method through which you can meditate while walking and dancing. It combines the beauty and passion of tango with Zen's mindfulness and the age-old practices of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and Chakra exercises, creating a truly transformative experience for you.

Tango Zen Retreat is designed to help participants connect with their energy and enhance their tango experience by letting go of self-consciousness and fully engaging with the music, the movement, and the partner, allowing emotions to flow through the body. You will learn how to connect with your partner on a deeper level and how to navigate the dance floor with grace and fluidity. You will also have a chance to attend Milonga, a tango dance event offered at the Benedikushof campus during the Retreat weekend.

This Retreat is crafted for everyone, from beginners to seasoned dancers. We aim to equip you with the methods of Tango Zen that will help harmonize your body, mind, and spirit, enabling you to dance in a way that is genuine, expressive, and emotionally resonant.

Open for beginners and experienced people, being singles or being couples.

Advanced Workshop

Jun 15-17, Advanced Register>

Tango Zen Advanced Retreat offers a transformative journey, blending tango's beauty and passion with Zen's mindfulness, the flowing energy of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and Chakra exercises. It invites participants to elevate their tango experience by fostering mindful, deeply connected, and emotionally resonant dance practices, discovering tango as more than just a dance—embracing it as a pathway to harmony and profound connection.

Tango Zen is a method of meditating through walking and dancing. Combining tango’s expressive movements with Zen’s mindfulness creates a harmonious integration of rhythm, emotion, and presence. Participants learn to let go of self-consciousness, fully immersing themselves in the music, their movements, and their partners, fostering profound emotional and energetic connections.

Tango Zen Advanced Retreat builds on foundational skills through four thoughtfully designed sessions. It emphasizes mindfulness, connection, and presence to deepen the dance experience. Key elements include:

  • Meridian and chakra exercises to understand and harness energy flow

  • Rhythmic walking techniques to release self-consciousness and embrace natural movement

  • Chakric connection exercises for deeper emotional bonding with a partner

  • Group resonance and pendulum exercises to experience collective energy flow

  • Circular movements to rediscover joy and fluidity in dance.

This Retreat focuses on refined, minimalistic movements that enhance personal enjoyment and partner communication. It deepens each participant’s relationship with tango, transforming the dance into a celebration of connection and presence.

The Retreat is open to both singles and couples who have previously attended a beginner’s Tango Zen Retreat at Benediktushof or a Workshop elsewhere. Individuals without prior Tango Zen experience who are interested in participating are encouraged to contact retreat leader Chan Park to discuss eligibility.

Retreat content may be adapted to suit participants’ needs and composition.
