Have you ever thought about what makes a milonga a great milonga?
Well, the answer is personal, but after going to many milongas in different cities and countries, including Buenos Aires, I've found that there are four key things that make a milonga special.
First, place is important! A good milonga should have good lighting, a good dance floor (preferably made of wood), enough chairs for everyone to sit and cabeeo comfortably, and a good sound system.
Second, the organizers are very important for making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. They should have the skills they need or be willing to get better at them so that everyone feels safe and happy.
Third, the milonga is made by the people. It's important to have dancers who like to dance, respect the right of others to enjoy the dance, and are willing to help the organizers keep the dance fun for everyone.
Lastly, it's important to have a good DJ who knows the subtleties of the music and how it makes the milonga a place where people can dance. They should be willing to get better and play better music to make the dancers happy.
Do you agree with these points, or did I forget something? What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
